Future Plans
We completed our original development programme in 2002. Our pholosophy has been to look for development opportunities within our immediate area. We would not encroach on another housing association's area of operation. We approached Glasgow City Council in 1997 when we became aware that the old Roads Depot site was being vacated on Blochairn Road, adjacent to our houses. It took 12 years to pursuade the Council to sell. In 2011 our new build development at Blochairn Place was voted 'Development of the year in Scotland' in the Herald Property Awards.
Currently we are working with Copperworks Housing Association and Rosemount Development Trust to create a masterplan for Roystonhill, including the Millburn Centre. Our preference would be to save this iconic building and convert it to housing. This is the preferred option of the planners but the funding department at Glasgow City Council are not so keen as it is more expensive than demolition and new build. Any houses bullt will be shared equally between Blochairn and Copperworks.
